The brief

Twelve years of work, much of it across a border

Identity Makers has been naming and designing brands since 2014. In that time the studio’s work has carried the names of international organisations — Mitsubishi, the Indian Embassy in Brussels and Rotary among them — alongside a long list of companies launching their first product.

Hiring a design partner in another country raises a specific set of questions, and they are rarely about portfolios. Portfolios are easy to judge. What is hard to judge from eight timezones away is everything underneath: when you can actually reach us, whether the name will clear, who owns the work, and how you pay us. This page answers those four directly.

How we work across timezones

We schedule calls within your working hours and confirm the window before the project starts. Our clients are in the US, UK, the Gulf and Singapore, and none of them are asked to take a call at an unreasonable hour to keep a project moving. Between calls the work moves in writing, so progress never waits on a shared clock.

In a different timezone? Send your brief whenever suits you. We reply within 24 hours on business days and schedule the first call inside your working hours.

Our differentiator

Trademark clearance in your jurisdiction

Most naming studios name first and clear later: they present a shortlist, you fall for one, and only then does anyone run a search. When it comes back blocked you have lost weeks — and the attachment to the dead name makes your second choice feel like a compromise forever. We clear before we present.

United States

USPTO

Searched against the relevant Nice classes for your goods and services, including phonetic and confusingly-similar marks — not just exact matches.

United Kingdom

UKIPO

Register searched on the same basis, run separately from the EU position where that distinction matters to you.

Middle East

GCC filings

There is no single GCC-wide registration. Protection means separate national filings across Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE — we check the markets you actually trade in.

Domain availability is checked at the same time, because a name that clears the register but has no usable domain is only half a name. To be precise about what this is: our clearance is a knock-out search, designed to eliminate names that are obviously unavailable before you invest attention in them. It is not a legal opinion and does not replace a filing attorney in your jurisdiction — it makes sure the attorney you eventually instruct is reviewing a shortlist worth paying them to review.

Names and identities built to travel

Three recent identity programmes, each cleared and delivered end to end.

Worbyn brand name and logo designWorbyn — steel fabrication

Ownership

You own it. Not a licence. Not a usage right.

Full intellectual property in the final delivered work transfers to you on final payment — the wordmark, the logo, the source files, and the name itself where a name has been developed.

Contracts

Written agreement, signed first

Every engagement runs on a written agreement signed before work begins, setting out scope, deliverables, revision rounds, timeline and the transfer of rights.

Certainty

A handshake isn’t a contract

We know this is the single biggest anxiety in hiring a studio in another country. So it is written down, in English, before anyone starts designing.

Freedom

Open files, no lock-in

Working files are handed over in open, editable formats. If you later take the brand in-house or move to another studio, you don’t need us to make a change.

Payment

Paying us from abroad

We invoice in USD, GBP or AED — whichever suits your finance team. There is no requirement to transact in rupees, and engagements are staged with a deposit to begin and the balance on delivery.

SWIFT

International wire

Standard bank transfer, with full details on the invoice in the format your accounts team expects.

Wise

Fast and low-cost

Usually the quickest and cheapest route for smaller engagements, at a better rate than most bank wires.

Card

Company card

For clients who prefer to keep the spend on a card and reconcile it the usual way.

Pricing in USD

What it costs

Our published rates apply the same way to international clients as to domestic ones. There is no overseas surcharge. These figures sit significantly below US and UK agency rates for equivalent scope — a function of where we are based, not of what you receive.

How briefings work

You will never wonder where the project stands

You complete a written brief covering your market, audience, competitors and positioning, followed by a live call inside your working hours to interrogate it. Presentations are delivered as annotated decks and recorded, so stakeholders who could not attend see the reasoning rather than just the artwork. Feedback is consolidated in writing at each round, so no decision depends on someone remembering what was said on a call.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Timezones

What are your working hours in my timezone?

We schedule calls within your working hours and confirm the window before the project starts. Between calls the work moves in writing — annotated decks and consolidated written feedback — so nothing waits on a shared clock.

Ownership

Who owns the brand name and logo when it’s finished?

You do. Full intellectual property in the final delivered work transfers to you on final payment, including the wordmark, logo, source files and the name. This is set out in a written agreement signed before work begins, and working files are supplied in open, editable formats.

Payment

How can I pay from outside India?

By international bank wire (SWIFT), Wise, or card. We invoice in USD, GBP or AED. Engagements are staged with a deposit to start and the balance on delivery.

Trademarks

Do you check trademarks in my country, or only in India?

In your country. We run USPTO searches for the United States, UKIPO for the United Kingdom, and per-country GCC filings for the Middle East, covering the relevant classes for your goods and services. Clearance happens before we present, not after you choose. It is a knock-out search rather than a legal opinion, and does not replace a filing attorney in your jurisdiction.

Process

How does briefing work if we never meet in person?

A written brief, then a live call inside your working hours to interrogate it. Presentations are annotated and recorded so absent stakeholders see the reasoning, and feedback is consolidated in writing at each round.

Timelines

What are typical timelines?

Individual assets such as a name or a logo generally run 4 to 10 days. Combined engagements run longer in proportion to scope, with full end-to-end identity programmes taking 30 to 45 days. Timelines are confirmed in the written agreement before work starts.
