The Short Answer

What is a brand identity agency in India?

A brand identity agency in India designs the complete visual and verbal system a business is recognised by: the logo system, colour palette, typography, imagery and graphic language, tone of voice, and the brand guidelines that keep all of it consistent after handover. Identity Makers has designed identity systems this way since 2014, with logo design from ₹12,000 and full identity engagements at ₹24,000, ₹40,000 and ₹90,000 plus GST.

This page is a working reference for founders and marketing leads commissioning identity work in India: what a complete system contains, how we run an engagement, how scope and price are set, and how to tell a real system from a set of attractive files. The Shift

Logos Are Cheap Now. Systems Are Not.

An AI tool will generate a hundred logos in the time it takes to read this sentence. Some will be competent. Any agency in India still selling a single logo file as its core value is selling something the market can now largely produce for itself. What it cannot produce is a system.

01What a generator can do

Produce a Mark

A hundred logo directions, endless palettes, instant mockups. Generating options is no longer the hard part of identity work, and nobody should pay an agency a premium for it.

02What it cannot do

Build a System

It cannot make a mark that works at favicon size and on a hoarding, a palette that survives a printed carton and a form interface, or guidelines a printer, a packaging vendor and a new hire can follow without asking. That is design judgement applied across every touchpoint.

A logo is one output. A brand identity is the system that makes every future output, a proposal, a carton, a social post, a shopfront, look like it came from the same company.
The System

The Six Components of a Complete Brand Identity

A brand identity that functions as a system, rather than a folder of files, contains six things. Most engagements in India deliver two or three and call it an identity.

01Mark

Logo System

Primary mark, secondary and stacked variants, monogram or app icon, clear-space and minimum-size rules, and every file format each use needs. A single logo file is one output of a system, not the system.

02Colour

Colour System

Primary palette, secondaries, a neutral range wide enough to build interfaces with, and functional colours, specified for print and screen. See our guide to a brand colour palette.

03Type

Typographic System

A display face, a text face, the weights actually licensed, and a scale that survives a website, a pitch deck and a printed brochure without anyone inventing new sizes.

04Imagery

Graphic Language

Photography direction, illustration and iconography rules, and the recurring graphic device that carries recognition when the logo is small, cropped or absent, on social and on pack.

05Voice

Verbal Identity

Tagline, tone of voice and the language conventions governing how the brand describes itself, so copy in a proposal and copy on a carton sound like the same company.

06Governance

Brand Guidelines

The document that makes the other five usable by people who were not in the room. Our guide to brand identity guidelines covers what it must contain.

A useful test when reading a proposal: ask which of the six it delivers, and what happens to the others. An agency thinking in systems will have an answer. An agency selling logo design will find the question pedantic.

Why It Matters

Recognition Is Built by Repetition. Systems Make It Possible.

Customers recognise a brand after meeting it consistently, many times, across many places. A logo alone cannot guarantee that. A governed system can.

Without a System

Every Touchpoint Drifts

The website uses one blue, the brochure another. The social team crops the logo to fit. The packaging vendor substitutes a font. Within eighteen months the brand looks like five companies, and every new asset starts from scratch.

With a System

Every Touchpoint Compounds

Colour, type, layout and graphic device are specified once and applied everywhere. New assets are faster and cheaper to produce, and each one adds to recognition instead of diluting it.

The Process

How a Brand Identity Engagement Runs

Six stages, each ending in a decision you sign off before the next begins. That is what keeps the system coherent and the timeline honest.

1

Discovery & Audit

Your business, audience, competitors and every existing asset. We identify what equity is worth keeping and what is actively hurting recognition.

2

Positioning & Direction

What the identity has to signal, to whom, and against which competitors. Agreed in writing before any design begins, so concepts are judged against the brief, not taste.

3

Concept Routes

Multiple distinct design concepts, each with a creative concept note explaining the thinking behind it, presented in context rather than on a blank page.

4

System Build

The chosen route developed into the full system: logo variants, colour, typography, graphic language and tone of voice.

5

Applications

The system applied to the touchpoints that matter for your business: stationery, collateral, packaging, signage or digital, with print mockups.

6

Guidelines & Handover

Logo kit, print-ready and open source files, and brand guidelines written for whoever applies the system next. See which logo file formats you actually need.

Scope

How Are Brand Identity Engagements Scoped in India?

Scope in this market varies more than price does, which is why quotes that look comparable often are not. Three shapes are common.

01Single Asset

One Component

Most often a logo, sometimes packaging or a brochure. Suits an established business that needs one asset designed well, not a full system.

02Core Identity

Logo, Colour, Type

Plus a short guidelines document. The most commonly quoted shape in India, and the one most often called complete when imagery and voice sit outside it.

03Full System

All Six Components

Every component designed, applied to real touchpoints and governed by guidelines. This is the shape that produces lasting recognition.

Due Diligence

How Do You Tell an Identity System From a Decoration?

Most proposals look similar at presentation. The differences show up eighteen months later, when someone who was not in the room has to apply the work to something nobody anticipated. Four checks separate a system from a set of attractive files.

1

Ask What Happens at the Edges

A logo that only works on white is not a logo system. Ask to see the mark on a dark background, at favicon size, embroidered on a shirt and printed single-colour on a carton. Systems have answers for all four. Decorations have a hero image.

2

Ask Who the Guidelines Are For

Guidelines written for the client are a summary. Guidelines written for the next agency, the printer, the packaging vendor and the intern who joins in two years are a governance document, with rules inconvenient enough to be real.

3

Ask What the System Refuses

Every functioning identity forbids things: certain colour pairings, certain crops, certain tones of voice. A proposal that only describes what the brand can do has not been pressure-tested.

4

Ask to See It Applied

Not on a mockup of a phone in a marble hand. On an invoice, a tender cover, a social post with real copy, a carton with a barcode. Our agency evaluation guide sets out the full list of questions.

Refresh or Rebrand

Six Signs Your Business Needs a New Brand Identity

Most identities do not fail suddenly. They drift out of step with the business. These are the six situations that most often bring founders to us.

01Outgrown

You Have Moved Upmarket

Prices, clients and ambitions have grown. The identity still looks like the version of the business that started out.

02Inconsistent

Nothing Matches

Every touchpoint was designed separately by someone different. There is a logo, but there is no system holding the rest together.

03Pivot

Your Category Has Changed

The business moved into an adjacent category, but the identity still signals the old one in every first impression.

04Portfolio

New Products and Sub-Brands

A second and third product need a visual architecture: how they relate to the parent and to each other.

05Expansion

Entering New Markets

Colours, type and packaging that work at home can read very differently, or break regulations, in the market you are entering.

06Scrutiny

Raising or Selling to Enterprise

Investor decks, tender documents and procurement reviews judge credibility fast. An amateur identity costs you before anyone reads the numbers.

Refresh or full rebrand: how to decide

A refresh keeps the recognisable core, usually the mark and the primary colour, and rebuilds the system around it: cleaner variants, a wider palette, better typography, guidelines that actually govern. It suits a business whose positioning is still right but whose execution has drifted. A full rebrand replaces the core because the positioning itself has changed: a new category, a new audience, a new price point. The test is whether the existing identity still signals the right things to the customer you want next. If it does, protect the equity and refresh. If it does not, keeping it costs you every time someone meets the brand. Our guide to renaming versus rebranding covers the decision in more depth.

Designing an identity for sub-brands and product lines

When a business adds products, the identity has to decide how they relate to the parent. A masterbrand system uses one flexible core and a disciplined way of generating variants, with guidelines that govern how far a variant may travel before it stops reading as family. An endorsed system gives each product its own visual language with a quieter link back to the parent. These are opposite briefs that produce different logo systems, colour architectures and guidelines, so the architecture has to be decided before the visual work starts, not discovered halfway through.

Encoding product tiers visually

A single product becomes three tiers, and suddenly the identity has to show hierarchy: which tier sits above which, at a glance, on a pricing page, a carton or a marketplace listing, without anyone explaining it. That is a different demand from encoding a single brand. It is usually solved with a controlled colour ladder, typographic weight or a graphic device that scales, and it needs explicit room for the tiers that do not exist yet.

Adapting an identity for new markets

Colour carries different meanings in different markets, typefaces may lack the scripts a new market needs, and packaging regulations can dictate where and how large the mark appears. An identity built for one market can be adapted rather than replaced, but only if the system was designed with that flexibility from the start. Where expansion is on the roadmap, we design and test the system against the target markets during the engagement, not after launch.

Preparing an identity for investors and enterprise buyers

A pitch deck forwarded among dozens of others, a tender submission, a vendor due diligence pack: each is read quickly, by people deciding whether you look like a serious company before they look at the substance. The identity has to hold up in text-dense documents produced by non-designers, which shifts weight onto the typographic system, the deck template and the guidelines. It also has to be owned: brand assets held by the company, source files on hand, and marks registered in the classes you trade in.

By Business Type

How the Identity Brief Changes by Business Type

The same six components carry different weight depending on how a business reaches its customers. The commonest scoping error in India is buying a system built for a different shape of business.

Cost & Timeline

How much does brand identity design cost in India?

A logo design starts at ₹12,000 plus GST. Full identity engagements run at ₹24,000, ₹40,000 and ₹90,000, depending on how many of the six components are in scope, how many touchpoints the system has to be applied to, and how many markets it has to work in.

Those three variables move the number more than anything else. Each component carries its own design, production and review cycle. Each application, a carton, a brochure, a website, is real design work rather than a mockup. And a system that must work across several markets or scripts needs typographic and colour decisions a single-market system does not. Our breakdown of brand identity cost goes further into what drives the variance.

How long does a brand identity project take?

A logo takes five to ten days. A Kickstarter identity takes seven to fifteen, a Popular identity fifteen to thirty, and a complete End-to-End system thirty to forty-five. The variable that moves timelines most is decision speed on your side: engagements that run long almost always do so because a concept round sat unreviewed for a fortnight, not because the design took longer than planned. Our guide to the logo design process explains what happens at each checkpoint.

Before You Commission

What to Settle Before Commissioning Identity Work

Engagements run smoothly or badly for reasons usually visible before they start. None of these need a designer.

1

Who Decides

Each concept round needs one person with authority to choose. Committee review at every checkpoint produces a compromised system and a long timeline.

2

What Equity You Keep

A colour customers already know, a mark with recognition, a pack shape on shelves. Decide what carries over before the brief, not at review.

3

Which Touchpoints Matter

Most businesses have three or four places where the brand does real work. A system scoped around those is cheaper and better than one scoped around everything.

4

What Cannot Change

A registered mark, a regulator-required colour, a parent brand's rules. Constraints declared at the start shape the work; discovered at review, they destroy it.

Brand Identity Agency FAQs

How much does a brand identity agency in India cost?

Published 2026 pricing guides put branding projects in India at roughly ₹20,000 to ₹50,000 for early-stage businesses, ₹60,000 to ₹1,50,000 for growth-stage brands and ₹2,50,000 to ₹10,00,000 for established brands. Identity Makers packages start at ₹24,000 (Kickstarter), ₹40,000 (Popular) and ₹90,000 (End to End), plus GST. Contact us for exact pricing.

What does a complete brand identity include?

Six components: a logo system, a colour system, a typographic system, imagery and graphic language, verbal identity (tagline and tone of voice), and brand guidelines that make the system usable after handover.

What is the difference between a logo and a brand identity?

A logo is one output. A brand identity is the system the logo sits inside: variants, colour, type, imagery rules, tone of voice and the guidelines that govern how all of it is applied by people who were not in the original room.

How long does a brand identity project take?

A logo takes five to ten days. Full identity engagements take seven to forty-five days depending on the tier. Decision speed on the client side is the biggest variable.

Should we refresh our identity or do a full rebrand?

Refresh if your positioning is still right but execution has drifted: keep the recognisable core and rebuild the system around it. Rebrand if the positioning itself has changed, such as a new category, audience or price point.

What files do we receive at handover?

A logo kit in every format you need for print and screen, print-ready and open source files, and brand guidelines covering logo usage, colour, typography and graphic language.

Do you work with businesses outside India?

Yes. Our international practice covers the same scope, priced in USD.
