Product Naming Agency in India

Identity Makers is a product naming agency in India. We name new products, product ranges, tiers and spin-offs for companies that already have a parent brand. We scope product naming separately from company naming because it is a different job: you are not only choosing a name, you are choosing how that name sits under your brand for every launch that follows.

Every project starts with that structural decision. Then we generate 40 to 60 name candidates and screen the shortlist for conflicts at the Indian Trade Marks Registry in your classes, for domain availability, and for unwanted meanings in Hindi and the regional languages you sell into. Published naming packages run from Rs 12,000 to Rs 90,000.

What does a product naming agency do?

A product naming agency creates names for things a company sells, rather than for the company itself. That covers a single new product, a family of variants, a premium or entry tier, a sub-brand aimed at a new audience, and a spin-off that may one day stand on its own. The work is part creative and part risk control. Anyone can produce a long list of ideas. The value is in knowing which of them can be registered, which will still make sense in the languages your customers speak, and which leave room for the products you have not launched yet.

Product naming vs company naming: what changes

A company name has to carry everything you will ever do. A product name has to do one job well while working alongside a parent name customers already know. That changes three things. The brief is narrower, because the product’s role in the range is already defined. The name has to sit comfortably next to the parent brand on a pack, a listing or an invoice. And the trademark search usually covers more classes over time, because every product and tier you name needs its own clearance.

Branded, endorsed or standalone: choosing the structure first

Before we write a single candidate, we agree how the new name relates to the parent. There are three broad answers. A branded product carries the parent name outright, which borrows trust but ties the product’s reputation to the company’s. An endorsed product has its own name with the parent shown as a signature, which gives freedom while keeping the link. A standalone product has no visible link at all, which suits a new audience or price point but means building recognition from zero. Each choice changes marketing cost, trademark filing cost and how your sales team explains the range, and each is hard to reverse once customers have learned it.

Naming a range or tiers customers can read in order

Tier names have their own rules. A customer who has never seen your range should be able to tell which option sits above which without being told. The system has to leave room at both ends, because you will eventually add a tier, and a two-tier system named Standard and Premium has nowhere left to go. Tier names appear on packaging and marketplace listings where nobody is present to explain them, so they have to survive translation. And every tier needs to be individually clearable, which multiplies the trademark work by the number of tiers.

Our product naming process

  1. Brief. The product, its buyer, its price position, its place in your range and the markets it will be sold in.
  2. Structure. Branded, endorsed or standalone, agreed before any names are written.
  3. Generation. 40 to 60 name candidates built against the brief.
  4. Language checks. Shortlisted names are checked for unwanted meanings in Hindi and the regional languages relevant to your market.
  5. Trademark screening. Shortlisted names are screened at the Indian Trade Marks Registry in the classes that matter to you.
  6. Domain check. Availability of the domains you will need.
  7. Final shortlist. The names that survive every filter, with the reasoning behind each.

How much does product naming cost in India?

Our published naming packages run from Rs 12,000 to Rs 90,000. Where a project sits in that range depends on how many names you need, whether you are naming one product or a full range with tiers, and how many trademark classes and languages the screening has to cover. You will have a fixed quote before any work starts.

Who is product naming for?

Companies with an established brand launching something new: an FMCG or D2C business adding a line, a manufacturer creating a consumer-facing range, a software company naming a product tier, or a group spinning a product into its own brand. If you are naming the company itself, see who can name my company in India or our brand naming agency in India page.

Product naming FAQs

Can you name a single product, or only a whole range?

Both. A single product is a common brief. We still check how the name would sit alongside future products so you are not boxed in later.

Do you check trademarks in my product’s class?

Yes. Shortlisted names are screened at the Indian Trade Marks Registry in the classes relevant to the product. We recommend a trade marks attorney files and gives the final legal opinion.

Will the new name work with our existing brand?

That is the first thing we settle. The structure decision, branded, endorsed or standalone, is made before any names are written, so every candidate is built to fit.

Can you name products for export?

Yes. We work with brands selling into the US, UK, UAE, Canada, Australia and Singapore as well as India, and the language checks are set by where the product will be sold.
